Moving for Memory

A REFERRAL FROM YOUR PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PROGRAM.

The Moving for Memory group program runs twice a week for five weeks. This program is designed to support individuals who are experiencing expected memory changes related to healthy aging including those with mild to moderate cognitive impairment. This program is not appropriate for those with dementia or Alzheimer’s.

This group is facilitated by an exercise specialist and primary care registered nurse and includes:

  • Physical activity: a combination of walking for cardiovascular health, along with strength and balance activities.
  • Cognitive engagement: topics include spatial awareness, patterning, visual cues, associations, priming, and using your senses.
  • Brain health education: topics include five steps to brain health, goal setting, nutrition, social connection and socializing, relaxation techniques, coping, medications, and sleep.

Prior to starting the program, you will be assessed by our primary care registered nurse and exercise specialist to review your medical history, available cognitive screens, and complete a baseline physical function assessment (walking test, a sit to stand, and balance test), to assess your suitability for this program.
