March 24, 2015: For immediate release

Edmonton, AB – The province’s first primary care network is celebrating 10 years of patient care excellence on May 1, 2015. Over the decade, Edmonton Southside Primary Care Network (PCN) has grown to consist of more than 65 member clinics, 230 family physicians, and more than 100 PCN staff. Their open house on May 1, will let the public experience being a “patient for a day” to explore all of programs and services the PCN has to offer, as well as identifying family doctors currently accepting new patients.

“Primary Care Networks exist for your physician and a health care team to work together to coordinate patient care, improve access to the health system and support positive changes toward a healthier lifestyle,” says Doug Craig, General Manager of Edmonton Southside PCN. “Each team plays a specific role in improving, coordinating and delivering primary health services.” The Edmonton Southside PCN primary care teams include nurses, nurse practitioners, geriatric nurses, social workers, behavioural health consultants, registered dietitians, respiratory therapists, and exercise specialists.

Be a Patient For a Day runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Providence Renewal Centre (3005 – 119 Street). The day includes activities and prizes (a chance to win of three Fitbits), cupcakes and refreshments, opportunities to meet some of the PCN’s practitioners and learn about available programs, as well as the chance to find a new doctor and experience the new website that will feature more resources on a user-friendly interface.

Edmonton Southside PCN was established in 2005 as a resource for physicians to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to serve the comprehensive needs of family care. The PCN focuses on prevention, healthy living choices, chronic disease management and continual health support. For more information, visit http://www.edmontonsouthsidepcn.ca.
